As the people of Japan continue to struggle with recovering from the nation's devastating earthquake and tsunami, some artists are being forced to cancel their tour dates in the nation. Ke$ha released a statement on Monday announcing that she would have to postpone her upcoming dates in Japan.

"My heart is with Japan right now through this disaster and these hardships," the singer wrote on her website. "I genuinely don't think right now would be appropriate timing for me to perform in Japan given the content and the spirit of my show, which is all about feeling exuberant, rowdy, and wild. ... I plan to bring my party there and to that part of the world when we are all ready to dance and Get $leazy together again. In the meantime I am going to do everything I can to help relief efforts and I encourage everyone in the world to do the same."

In the meantime, Ke$ha has a string of North American dates kicking off on April 1 with a show in Clarion, Pennsylvania, and running through early May.

According to Billboard, the promoter of the scotched Japanese tour, Creativeman Productions, also announced that it would be canceling a pair of its annual spring festivals. The Springgroove, an R&B, soul and hip-hop festival scheduled for April 2 near Tokyo and April 3 in Osaka, would have featured Nelly and Flo Rida, among others. Also called off was then annual hardcore Punkspring festival on April 1 and 2 in Osaka and Nagoya with headliners Good Charlotte and Hoobastank.

Ne-Yo continued with his planned dates in Japan over the weekend, performing a show in Nagoya on Friday and launching a charity initiative to help the people of the country. Called "Spread Love Through Music," the show included donation boxes at the concert to help those in need and the sale of a special wristband with proceeds going to earthquake relief. He plans to do the same during his shows on Tuesday (March 22) in Yokohama and Thursday in Tokyo. "You can absolutely spread love through music, and I think that's what's absolutely called for in this time of crisis," he said in a video on his website.

Also currently touring Japan is Cyndi Lauper, who is slated to play a show in Osaka on Tuesday and was in the country promoting her Memphis Blues album when the quake hit on March 11. She's been tweeting about her experience all along, and on Monday, she wrote about the healing power of music in the shattered country.

"Miss my family but have my music family and the warmth of the peeps I sing to. Tonight I will lose myself in the music and the rhythm," she wrote. Like Ne-Yo, she is asking fans to donate cash at the shows to earthquake relief and is donating all royalties from sales of her Blues album in Japan to the Japanese Red Cross.

Lady Gaga's Born This Way Cover Is 'Polarizing,' Perez Hilton Says

'She loves that people are talking about it,' gossip blogger tells MTV News.

When Lady Gaga tweeted the Born This Way album art over the weekend, fans were a bit surprised by the cover photo, which features Gaga as a motorcycle/human hybrid.

Was it a joke? Was it for real? Well, it was for real, and even days later, everyone's still talking.

"They were definitely divisive and it was a polarizing image," Gaga's pal Perez Hilton told MTV News. "I knew it would really get a reaction out of people, and that was her intent. She could have easily gone for something expected, but that's the beautiful thing about Gaga."

The gossip blogger said the Nick Knight image's intention was to get people buzzing, whether or not that buzz ended up in the Mother Monster's favor. He even offered some insight into the photo's message, which has been lost on some of Gaga's Little Monsters.

"She always wants to keep people guessing, and I think the cover works on many different levels," he explained. "Literally, she was born that way, [like] some kind of mutant freak. There's a lot of energy in that picture."

He adds that the vibe captured in the image will also find its way into the music on the May 23 album release. "There's something very metal [about it and] 'Judas' [which was released last week] gives a taste of that dance/metal feeling," he said. "Once the album comes out and they listen to the music, the artwork will make more sense. She loves that people are talking about it."

What do you think of the album cover? Let us know in the comments!

'Water For Elephants' Director Francis Lawrence Pulls 'Houdini' Out Of His Hat

It's been about a month since we heard anything about Francis Lawrence's planned Houdini film, but with "Water for Elephants" hitting theaters this weekend he's ready to start looking ahead.

When MTV News caught up with the director at the "Water for Elephants" red carpet, he was willing to share what originally drew him to the project. "I'm interested in worlds and one of the things that's really exciting about being a filmmaker is you get to kind of dive into something that you're not an expert in and you get to immerse yourself in," he said.

This is one of four Houdini projects circling around Hollywood right now, but by the way Lawrence talks about his interest in it, it sounds like it could be one of the best: "To immerse myself in turn of the century New York, in 1900 New York, is really exciting, but also into the world of magic, especially the world of Houdini's magic, and the escape arts and who that guy was and his battle against fraud in terms of real magic and spiritualism."

But the other draw for the director is that this version of Houdini's story, originally meant to be helmed by Paul Verhoeven, deals with other major historical figured of the time as well.

"Teddy Roosevelt was the police commissioner in New York City at the time," Lawrence said. "The police corruption, there's just so much happening in New York. I think it's going to be a really fun movie."

Is this a film you're looking forward to? Tell us in the comments section or on Twitter!

Lady Gaga Debuts 'Glee' Clip From 'Born This Way' Episode

Singer took to Facebook to share 50-second teaser that shows Mr. Schuester giving New Directions Gaga assignment.

"Glee" is ready to go Gaga all over again. But this time, the New Directions gang will not only pay tribute to the pop star, they'll also embrace themselves in an episode devoted to self-acceptance.

Lady Gaga took to her Facebook on Friday (April 22) and premiered a clip from the highly anticipated episode, which airs Tuesday. In the preview, Mr. Schuester tells the club they'll be performing songs of self-love, including a group number of the singer's hit "Born This Way."

Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith) kicks off the 50-second teaser by asking Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison) why Ms. Pillsbury (Jayma Mays) is attending their glee club meeting. Schuester tells the students that the guidance counselor will be helping out with the weekly assignment.

"Now, this is the only club at school that is represented by just about every race, religion, sexual orientation and clique, but many of are you are still having a hard time with acceptance," he says.

Despite rebuttals from the students, the club director explains that while they may embrace one another, they still don't accept themselves — for all of their good and bad qualities. Mr. Schuester then reveals the two-part assignment: singing tunes of self-acceptance that highlight their best and worst aspects, as well as performing "Born This Way."

"We're going to do a group number by the queen of self-love, Gaga. We're going to perform her anthem to acceptance, 'Born This Way,' " he tells the students, who break into cheers and applause.

Back in January, "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy opened up about why he chose to feature the hit song in the episode, which has been super-sized to 90 minutes. "I love that that song is [an] anthem," Murphy told Entertainment Weekly. "This show is by nature optimistic, and I think a character like Karofsky could turn to booze or pills or alcohol and kill themselves or do something dark. But I also love Max [Adler, the actor] and I love that character and I sorta want that character to have a happy ending. So I don't really know what that's going to be, but I do know we're going to do a whole episode that's about that song."

Judge Rules Lohan Violated Probation, Sets Trial Date

8 hours ago | WENN | See recent WENN news »

A Los Angeles judge has ruled Lindsay Lohan violated the terms of her probation after she was charged with the theft of a necklace and has ordered her to stand trial in June.

The Mean Girls actress is accused of stealing the $2,500 (£1,670) item from California store Kamofie & Co. in January. She has maintained her innocence and rejected a second plea deal in March.

Lohan appeared in court on Friday for a preliminary hearing, where testimonies were heard from a number of potential witnesses, including police detectives and shop owner Sofia Kaman.

Judge Stephanie Sautner denied a motion filed by Lohan's lawyer Shawn Holley to dismiss the case and ruled the star had broken the terms of her probation, stemming from a previous DUI charge.

However, she decided to reduce the crime from a felony to a misdemeanour because the DUI count took place four years ago.

Lohan formerly pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Judge Sautner set a trial date for 3 June and ordered Lohan to attend a pretrial date on 11 May, reports TMZ.com.

The actress faces a stint in jail if convicted of the charge.

Ever since they were first announced, the O Music Awards have proudly proclaimed themselves the untraditional alternative to the staid world of red carpets, acceptance speeches and celebrity glad-handing.

And for further proof of that point, consider the following: Though the inaugural OMAs won't premiere until April 28, the first award will be handed out on Monday at 4 p.m. ET ... and it's a big one.

For weeks, fans have been voting for the Most Innovative Music Video through the OMA official site, and on Monday — in a roundtable debate moderated by MTV News' James Montgomery — a winner will be crowned.

The O Music Awards Debate for the Most Innovative Music Video, presented by Fuze, will stream live on OMusicAwards.com and MTV.com. Joining Montgomery around the table will be acclaimed video director Wayne Isham, Mashable's Brenna Ehrlich and some super-secret celebrity guests.

The Black Eyed Peas, Ke$ha, My Chemical Romance and more will also take part in the discussion about just what makes a video truly innovative, and the folks who are nominated for the award — a list that includes Arcade Fire, Robyn, OK Go and Andy Grammer — will also Skype in to make the case for why their video deserves to be named Most Innovative.

On Monday morning, the original list of 10 nominees will be whittled down to the top five vote-getters, and then, during the debate, our roundtable and the Internet audience will cut that list down to the final three. At the very end, we'll announce the winner of the very first O Music Award for Most Innovative Video.

The inaugural OMAs will stream live from Las Vegas at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT on OMusicAwards.com. Tune in to see who will reign supreme in categories like Most Viral Dance, Funniest Music Short and NSFW Music Video!
